Academic CAFÉ

The goals of accelerating progression through developmental course requirements and preparing students for success in college level courses will be accomplished through the design and implementation of VC’s learning emporium laboratory, the Academic CAFÉ (Center for Accelerating Foundations and Essentials).  Beginning in the fall of 2014, one computer lab and adjoining classroom were converted into a relaxed, emporium-style learning center. Redesigned courses using the emporium model are open-entry/designated exit and require mandatory lab (CAFÉ) hours as part of a student’s schedule. The CAFÉ is operational 60 hours per week to allow students the flexibility to meet their required hours and master required content at their convenience and at their own pace. Instructors and teaching assistants provide monitoring, individual student assistance, and review student progress.
