Advising & Counseling

Academic Advising

Academic Advising is the process in which you and the KEY Center advisor work together to set goals for your academic life.  Advising appointments are not simply a time to schedule classes for a future semester but should be a safe place where you can share your thoughts, aspirations, concerns, and interests.  It is a collaborative process, but ultimately, you – the student – are responsible for your educational experience.

KEY Center Academic Advising Procedures

Schedule at least one academic advising appointment per semester with the KEY Center advisor. It is preferable to meet multiple times during a semester to discuss your progress towards your goals and any challenges you may be facing during the semester and as you prepare to transfer to another college or univeristy. Accept responsibility for your decisions and actions.

Advising appointments can be scheduled by calling (361) 582-2414, by emailing Joy Sixtos (Joy.Sixtos@VictoriaCollege.edu), or by visiting the KEY Center during office hours.

Personal Counseling

Life happens and often circumstances seem overwhelming so that school becomes “too much.”  The KEY Center provides personal counseling for short-term issues.  If your issues exceed the scope of our staff, we have the contacts and resources within the community to facilitate appropriate referrals.  We are here to help.

Counseling appointments can be scheduled by calling (361) 582-2414, by emailing Magali Silva (Magali.Silva@VictoriaCollege.edu), or by visiting the KEY Center during office hours.
