Crossroads Community Band to perform ‘Start of Spring Showcase’ concert

A variety of concert band music will be featured in the Crossroads Community Band’s first performance of 2015. The concert, “Start of Spring Showcase,” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 in the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

The band will perform:

  •     “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key, arranged by Jeff Emge and Ken Peach
  •     “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore
  •     “Southwest Saga” by Robert Sheldon
  •     “A Childhood Hymn” by David Holsinger
  •     “Invictus March” by K.L. King
  •     “The Homefront – Musical Memories from WWII” arranged by James Christensen
  •     “Rest” by Frank Ticheli
  •     “The Ascension” by Robert W. Smith

The band’s next concert will be at 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the Welder Center.

The 45-member Crossroads Community Band, conducted by Ken Peach, rehearses Tuesday nights in the Fine Arts Building band hall on VC’s Main Campus. The band is affiliated with Victoria College, and students may enroll in the band for VC music ensemble credit. This semester, there are 15 VC students receiving credit for participating in the band.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French Horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.

The Welder Center is located at 214 N. Main St. in historic downtown Victoria.
