Step 2 - Check the class schedule

Choose your subject then click class search at the bottom

If the section includes a W this is an online class. if it has an L this is a lab.

Ex: 20719 ACCT 2401 - L1
(20719 is the CRN) (ACCT is the course prefix) (2401 is the course number) (L1 is the section number)

If this says TBA - It's usually an online class

M - Monday
T - Tuesday
W - Wednesday
R - Thursday
F - Friday
S - Saturday

Step 3 - Speak to an Advisor

For new or returning students, this is the time your unofficial copy of your transcript may be useful. You will want to speak to an Advisor well before it's time to register. Advising & Counseling Services usually offers Pre-Advising the two weeks before VIP registration. Call them today! (361) 582-2400.

You can also view degree plans by starting from the VC website and clicking on Areas of Study. Each areas has their degree plans posted. Just print the degree plan, mark off the classes you have sucessful taken, and see what you need next. This will also be helpful when talking to an Advisor.

Step 4 - Register for Classes

How do I register for classes online?

  1. Login to your Pirate Portal
  2. Click the "Academic Services" tab
  3. Click "Look Up Classes" in the Registration Tools channel
  4. Choose Summer 2012 from the drop down box and click submit.
  5. Choose the subject of the class you are registering for and click Course Search
  6. Click View Sections next to the course you are regsitering for
  7. Click the check boxes on the left under the Select column then click Register at the bottom

Note: If you are registering for a lecture that requires a lab, click both the lecture and lab sections and continue.

  • Repeat for any additional classes you need to register for

Note: C = class is closed SR = you are not eligible to register due to a hold. NR = registration is not open

Step 5 - Pay for your Classes

Registration is not complete until your classes have been paid in full, your financial aid is complete, or you have initiated an installment/payment plan. There is a $20 fee and half is due when the installment/payment plan is inititated.

Ex. Total tutition and fees are $1000. Add + $20.00 = $1020.00. Half is $510.00 due at the first installment. $255.00 is due March 2, and $255.00 is due April 6. There is a $25 late fee each time the payment date is not met.

How do I initiate an Installment/Payment Plan?
  1. Login to your Pirate Portal (If the installment plan is done through the Pirate Portal, the next two payments will automatically be taken out of the same payment option on the due dates)
  2. Click the "Student Services" tab
  3. Click the "Click here to make or manage your payments>" link in the Make/Manage Payments channel
  4. Click the "Enroll in a Payment Plan" tab
  5. Click the "View Plan" link next to the current Installment Plan
  6. Click Continue to finish the steps

  • Go to the Payments department located in the Student Services building to set up your installment/payment plan. (You will be responsible for making the next two payments on or before the due dates. There is a $25.00 late fee for any payment not made by the due date.)

Step 6 - Register for a Blackboard Orientation session

All new online students are required to attend one of the sessions. Any student taking an online course is welcome to attend. Virtual and face-to-face sessions are available.

  1. Login to your Pirate Portal
  2. Click the "My Courses" tab
  3. Click the "Required Blackboard Orientation Reservation Form" link in the Blackboard Orientation Reservations channel
  4. Click the date link to register for the virtual session, fill in your name, e-mail, and phone then click Register Now or to register for the face-to-face sessions, fill in your name, phone, and e-mail and choose the session you will attend, then click submit request.

Step 7 - Buy your Books

The VC Bookstore website is currently under construction.

Start here to view the required textbooks for your courses: VC Bookstore

  1. Choose the Summer 12 semester
  2. Choose all course Departments
  3. Click "Continue to Get Course Materials"
  4. Select the course and sections, then click "Continue to Get Course Materials"
  5. You will be able to view and print your course list.
