Victoria College Emergency Alerts

At Victoria College, the safety of our students and employees is a top priority. In the case of an emergency or campus closure, VC's Emergency Alert System will be used to communicate details with students, faculty, and staff via phone messages, text messages, email, and loudspeakers.

In accordance with Texas House Bill 2758, VC’s Emergency Alert System sends alerts to all students and employees, but you can opt out from receiving alerts or choose not to receive alerts for certain locations. Keep in mind that your alert preferences must be renewed annually as they are automatically reset August 1 each year.

In order to receive campus alerts, it is important to make sure your contact information is up-to-date in the Pirate Portal. To do so, please follow the steps below.

For Victoria College Students, Faculty, and Staff

  1. Login to the Pirate Portal.
  2. Under the "My Contact Information" folder on the left, click on "Update Emergency Alert Information."
  3. Choose one the following options:
    • For Students – Log in to Bansam with your Pirate Portal username and password and click "Log In."
    • For Employees – Click the Faculty/Staff radio button and then log in to Bansam with your Pirate Portal username and password and click "Log In."
  4. Choose to either opt out (receive NO notifications) by checking the “I do NOT want to receive Emergency Alerts from Victoria College” checkbox or deselect the checkboxes of locations for which you do NOT wish to receive alerts. If a box is checked, you will receive alerts for that location.
  5. Click "Submit Choices."
  6. Choose one of the following options:
    • Delete a Number or Email – To delete a phone number or email address listed, click "Delete" in the appropriate row.
    • Edit a Number or Email – To edit a phone number or email address listed, click "Edit" in the appropriate row. Make appropriate changes, and then click "Update."
    • Add a Number – To add a new number, click "Add Phone." Fill in the area code and phone number, choose "Cell Phone" or "Home (Mailing)," and then click "Submit."
    • Add an Email – To add a new email address, click "Add Email." Fill in the email address and click "Submit."
  7. Click "Submit Choices."

For Community Members

  1. Call (361) 573-3291 or (877) 843-4369 to speak with a Call Center Agent or send an email to Alerts@VictoriaCollege.edu.
  2. Please provide the following information:
    • First and last name
    • Cell phone number with area code (for phone and text alerts)
    • Home phone number with area code (for phone alerts)
    • Email address
    • Type of contact: Community Member or UHV Affiliate

Text Alerts

If you provided a text-enabled phone number in your alert preferences, you should receive a confirmation message on your mobile phone sometime between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

All confirmation text messages and text alerts will come from 23177 or 63079. Please save these numbers under the name “Victoria College” so you can quickly recognize these numbers as the official sources of Victoria College messages.
