The Victoria College Writer's Club presents A State of Mind Poetry / Prose Reading on December 1, at 7:30 p.m., at Hastings. The reading will be free. All poetry and fiction will be original pieces written and read by VC students and staff. The Literary Magazine will also be on sale. |
| Flu Shots Available |

The Victoria City/County Health Department will sponsor a Flu Shot Clinic at Victoria College on Tuesday, November 29, 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in Meeting Rooms C & D.
There are 50 shots available and faculty/staff will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis. The charge for the shot is $20. |

The Victoria College Fine Arts Department presents a the Victoria College Choir and Choraliers in the December Choral Concert on December 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the Victoria College Johnson Symposium. The concert will feature some holiday songs. Dr. Marylynn Fletcher conducts the VC Choirs with Beverly Cheshire as pianist. Admission is free. The Victoria College Fine Arts Department presents a Wind Ensemble in Concert on December 8, at 7:30 p.m., in The Victoria College Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert will feature Esprit de Corps by Robert Jager, Ye Banks and Braes o’ Bonnie Doon by Percy Grainger, Satchmo! arranged by Warren Barker, Salvation Is Created by Pavel Tchesnokov, Cheerio March by Edwin Franko Goldman, Gathering of the Ranks at Hebron by David R. The Victoria College Fine Arts Department presents a Mariachi Concert and Toy Drive on December 7, at 7:00 p.m., in the Victoria College Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert will showcase Patti Welder Magnet Middle School's Las Panteras Varsity and Junior Varisty and Memorial High School's Serpientes de Oro and Serpientes de Plata all under the direction of Robert Rodriguez and Victoria College's El Mariachi de Victoria under the direction of Jonathan Anderson. | 2nd Annual Guns & Hoses Volleyball Challenge |

The Victoria College Fire Academy cadets and Police Academy cadets are serving up the Second Annual Guns & Hoses Volleyball Challenge on December 9. The tournament starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center Gym. Tickets will be sold before the game at the Admissions & Records Office, located in the Administration I Building, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 pre-sale and $5 at the door. All proceeds will benefit The Victoria College Fire Academy. Food and drinks will be on sale at the tournament. For more information, contact Natalie Willis at 361-482-9688. |

| College Closed for Thanksgiving |

The Victoria College campus will close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, for the Thanksgiving Holidays. This includes all offices and classes. Online classes will be accessible during the holidays. The College will resume normal hours on Monday, November 28. |

| A Bach-Inspired Concert |

The combined Victoria College Choir and The Victoria Civic Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Marylynn Fletcher, will present a concert of Bach choral works and Bach – inspired choral works Thursday evening, November 10, 2005 at 7:30 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Victoria College campus. The concert will be accompanied by keyboard, cello, bass, and drums. The concert is free.
The program will open with music by Johann S. Bach: the first movement of JS Bach’s Magnificat, the chorale, Wir singen dir in deinem Heer, and the duet Wir eilen mit schwachen sung by Jo Ann Hoffman and Billie Southern of Cuero.
The second set features instrumental music of JS Bach arranged for chorus by Ward Swingle of Swingle Singers fame. These numbers will be accompanied by drums and string bass. The VC choir will sing the Invention in A Minor. A quartet featuring John Bochat, Elisa Coffey, Amy Reeves, and Scott Reeves will sing the Fugue in A Minor from Estro Harmonico, Op. 3 No. 11. The Civic Chorus will sing a lively Bourrée from the English Suite, No. 2 and Aria from Suite in D Major.
The Knock, Knock Cantata is the work of PDQ Bach. According to the footnotes, PDQ Bach is the 21 st child of Bach and currently resides in Hoople, North Dakota. Soloists for the cantata are Jennifer Young and Barbara Reinhardt, sopranos; Ruth Williams, alto; James Reinhardt, tenor; and Russell Franklin, bass. It is a spoof of Cantatas written by JS Bach. The movements are titled Knock, Knock; How many psychiatrists, What is the question, and So this guy.
The program concludes with two chorales and two choruses from J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. The chorales are Ah! Dearest Jesus and Jesus, who didst ever guide me. The choruses are Christians Be Joyful and Come and Thank Him.
