Firefighting

The Fire Science Program at Victoria College is a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science, which requires 71 to 72 credit hours to complete. When combined with core curriculum the AAS degree in fire science also serves as a solid foundation for transfer to your choice of a four-year university.

You may also obtain a Basic Firefighter Certificate, which requires 36 credit hours to complete. The certificate program includes courses that will also satisfy requirements for the associate degree, so you may choose to begin with a certificate program and easily move on to the degree program in the future.

A firefighter’s primary duties include containing and putting out fires in a variety of structures, as well as extinguishing wildfires. Firefighters are also trained to deal with emergencies at the scene of a motor vehicle accident, provide assistance with search and rescue efforts, and respond to a variety of medical emergencies.
