Victoria College’s Lyceum program featuring ghost hunter Lorraine Warren – originally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6 – has been cancelled due to the speaker’s poor health. The lecture will not be rescheduled.

Warren’s appearance was to be the second of five Lyceum events for the 2014-15 season.

“We are saddened to hear of Mrs. Warren’s illness and wish her a speedy recovery,” said Lisa DeVries, Lyceum Committee chair and VC associate professor of English. “I know the local community will be very disappointed, especially the local paranormal investigation group and Theater 13, a local horror film club. We wish that we could reschedule Mrs. Warren, but unfortunately, she is under specific orders from her doctor to cancel her speaking engagements.”

The next Lyceum event will be the performance “Of Ebony Embers” with the Core Ensemble, a one-actor and three-musician performance that brings to life the Harlem Renaissance,. The performance will take place at noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

Jim Keady, a social activist, theologian, educator, and elected official who shines a light on the lives of Nike factory workers, will talk at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The final speaker in this year’s series will be Mack Dryden, a cancer survivor, creative writer, comedian and motivator, who will tell his story at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14.

The remaining three Lyceum events are free and open to the public. They will all be held in the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts, 214 N. Main St., in downtown Victoria.

Speaker suggestions are still being accepted for the 2015-16 Lyceum Series season. To suggest a speaker, visit and click on “Know of a good speaker?” The deadline to submit Lyceum speaker suggestions is Dec. 1.
