Law Enforcement

VC’s Police Academy will prepare you for a career in law enforcement and leads to a Basic Peace Officer Course Certificate, which requires 21 credit hours to complete. Successful completion of the program will enable you to take the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education examination to become a licensed peace officer in Texas.

Police officers enforce prevailing laws, help prevent crime, and protect the lives and property of people who live in their jurisdiction.

The Police Academy offers both daytime and evening training options. The Day Academy takes 5 months to complete, and the Night Academy takes 10 months to complete.

Cadets are trained to:

  • Investigate burglaries, assaults, murders, and motor vehicle accidents
  • Render first aid to injured victims
  • Suppress crime by building relationships with citizens
  • Respond to calls for service
  • Conduct proactive patrol investigations

VC’s Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). 

Program Information

VC’s Criminal Justice Program also includes an Associate of Applied Science degree that will prepare you for an entry-level position in a criminal justice field.

In addition to this certificate program, VC’s Workforce & Continuing Education Department offers a number of other training courses in Public Service as well.
