Victoria College Foundation Appoints Five New Board Members

The Victoria College Foundation recently appointed five new members to serve on its board of directors. The VC Foundation is comprised of community members throughout VC’s seven-county service area who share a commitment to providing quality, affordable higher education in our region.

The new Board members are: Bruce Bauknight, MD, of Victoria; Keith Henke of Victoria; Judge Rene Mascorro of Refugio; Carole Elise Oliphant of Victoria and John Zacek of Victoria.

Bruce Bauknight, MD, earned a BS degree from Texas Lutheran University; a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at John Sealy Hospital, UTMB in Galveston. From 1972-2008, Bauknight had a private practice in Victoria. He currently serves as Medical Director for both DeTar Hospital and Triumph Hospital. He is Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Citizen’s Medical Center and serves as a moderator for Citizen’s Tumor Board.

Keith Henke earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in accounting from Southwest Texas State University. He began his career in public accounting in 1992 and received his CPA designation in 1996. He joined Fordyce Holdings, Inc. in 2009 as the Chief Financial Officer. Henke has served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross and Perpetual Help Home. He is currently serving as Treasurer of Theatre Victoria and the Vine School.

Judge Rene Mascorro, a native of Refugio, attended Victoria College and is a graduate of Baylor University. Prior to being elected Refugio County Judge in 1996, he spent 14 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Judge Mascorro will begin his second term as County Judge in January 2011.

After serving 15 years as Executive Director of University Advancement at the University of Houston-Victoria, Carole Elise Oliphant now devotes the majority of her time as a community volunteer. She actively serves as a member, officer and on the boards of numerous civic organizations in Victoria, including the Bronte Club, Cultural Council, Devereux Foundation South Texas Advisory Board, Museum of the Coastal Bend Advisory Board, Adopt-A-Pet Development Committee, Bach Advisory Committee, Children’s Discovery Museum and Mid-Coastal Family Services, among many others.

John Zacek earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics from Texas  A&M University and completed the Southwest Graduate School of Banking.  He is Senior Vice President of Victoria Regional Lending/Sales Manager at First Victoria National Bank. He also owns Doubletree Cattle Co., and is involved in brangus cattle operations in Jackson and Victoria counties. Zacek currently serves as a member and officer of the Knights of Columbus Council #11351, is Chairman of the Finance Council at St. Joseph Catholic Church and Co-Chairman of the church capital campaign for renovation and expansion. He also serves on the Finance Council Board for the Catholic Diocese of Victoria.
