Last year, Victoria College’s information technology department was nominated for an award from Computerworld’s Storage Network World Fall 2010 “Best Practices” for implementing a new back-up and recovery system using FalconStor technology.

While VC finished the competition as a finalist, FalconStor Software has included VC and several members of its information technology department in its upcoming 2010 Annual Report.

VC Director of Technology Andy Farrior and Systems Administrator Daniel Robinson were responsible for selecting and implementing an updated back-up and recovery system to replace the old tape-based back-up system.

“Preserving data for continual use by students, faculty and staff is essential when you’re talking about a community college,” said Robinson. “That, in addition to our unique risk-factors for data loss that include the likelihood of hurricanes and other natural disasters related to our proximity to the Gulf Coast, make our decisions about back-up and recovery systems even more critical.”

“The tape-based system we used in the past became too limited and time-consuming for our needs,” added Robinson. “We needed a new system that would offer the most security and flexibility while still fitting within our budget, and FalconStor provided that.”

“We were proud to see VC recognized for its successful deployment,” said Fadi Albtal, vice president of marketing at FalconStor Software. “We’re pleased that our solutions enabled them to meet DR requirements and ensure the continuity of services for students, faculty and staff.”
