VC Pirates women’s volleyball team supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Wear PINK to the volleyball game this Thursday to help honor the memory of Pirates teammate Megan Diaz

Upcoming game is fundraiser for former teammate’s memorial fund

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, pink is the theme for the upcoming Victoria College Pirates women’s volleyball game against Trinity University on Thursday, October 13 at 8 p.m.

The women’s volleyball team is not only dedicating their game to supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month, they’re also dedicating their game to former teammate Megan Diaz. A member of the volleyball team in 2008, Diaz was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. Earlier this year, she succumbed to the disease. Proceeds from admissions and concessions, along with a Pink Treats bake sale and sales of pink t-shirts will be contributed to the Megan Diaz Memorial Fund.

Last year in October, Diaz was able to attend the game in her honor where the team raised approximately $600 to help her defray medical costs during her treatment. This year, funds will be donated to her memorial fund that helps other young women in similar circumstances struggling to fight breast cancer.

Volleyball fans should plan to wear pink to the game on Thursday, along with the team who will also wear pink. Admission to the game is $3, or $1 for students, and free for VC students, faculty and staff. However, attendees are encouraged to donate to the fund.
