VC Pirates menís basketball team unveil championship banner

This Wednesday, Oct. 12 marks the start of basketball season at Victoria College. The VC Pirates men’s and women’s basketball teams will play at home against Palo Alto College with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men starting at 8 p.m. in the VC Sports Center Gym.

In addition to the first game of the season, where the Pirates are calling for fans to “white out” the game by wearing white, the men’s team will also unveil their South Texas Club Sports League (STCSL) Championship Banner commemorating last year’s winning season. Last year was the first time for the men’s team to win the regular season championship.

The men’s team routinely plays against teams outside of the STCSL, including regional Texas teams sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Last season’s win was a huge win for the team.

“Even though we won the regular season, which is great, we fell short of the post-season championship,” said Coach Jonathan Anderson. “This year’s team is very hungry to accomplish all of their goals, including the post-season, and I’m confident they’ll reach them.”

There’s a lot to look forward to from this year’s team that includes returning players Donte McGee, Colten Clay, Rock Martin, Ivory Gill and Carlos Cortez, with new players Andrew Walker, Blake Moore, Xavier Callis, Ethan Simcik, Dontreal Bazy, Marc Rodriguez, Israel Garcia and Forrest Robinson.
