Victoria College’s Academy of Lifelong Learning will hold an open house and registration on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place in VC’s Continuing Education Center, located near Entrance 1 off of Ben Jordan Street on VC’s Main Campus.

Course schedules will be provided and instructors will be available to provide information on their respective classes.

The academy provides participants the opportunity to engage in study, discussions and social interactions within a group of peers who share common interests. Activities also allow members to expand and share their knowledge while meeting new friends and forming new social networks.

Lauren Joines, VC’s Lifelong Learning program specialist, has been working to recruit instructors and prepare programs that have specific appeal to seniors.

“Many of Victoria’s retired residents are looking for opportunities to continue learning,” said Joines. “This academy will allow them to interact with each other intellectually and socially and choose the things they want to learn in a relaxed, peer-oriented group.”

This fall’s class topics include genealogy, technology, healthcare and history. The first class, Facebook 101, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

In addition to more traditional classes and workshops, social activities will also be scheduled throughout the year.

Membership in VC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning is $50 per year. For more information about the open house, please contact Lauren Joines at (361) 582-2426 or via email at
