VC and Huvar’s offer next Lunch and Learn topic: “Stayin’ Alive”

“Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees will teach people how to save lives

Victoria College and Huvar’s Artisan Market have teamed up to offer this month’s Lunch and Learn topic, “Stayin’ Alive,” at noon on Wednesday, Nov.7. The free seminar will take place at Huvar’s Artisan Market located at 110 West Juan Linn Street in downtown Victoria.

Ricky De La Garza, the EMS coordinator and instructor for VC’s Workforce and Continuing Education Department, will discuss the American Heart Association’s new Hands-Only CPR Awareness Campaign with a lively presentation that includes the 70s disco classic, “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, which teaches people how to save lives.

According to AHA, nearly 400,000 Americans suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital every year, and almost 90 percent of them die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. When begun immediately, CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.

VC’s Lunch and Learn Series is specifically designed with working professionals in mind.

“This series is for business professionals who find it difficult to juggle work demands and find time for skills training,” said Sherri Pall, director of VC’s Workforce and Continuing Education. “We’re making it easier by taking the training to them in a ‘lunch and learn’ format.”

Lunch and Learn participants are responsible for their own lunch expense, but there is no charge for the program. Due to an anticipated large attendance, participants are encouraged to contact VC’s Workforce and Continuing Education Department at (361) 582-2528 to reserve a seat in advance.

“The response to the Lunch & Learn series has been incredible, and we are extremely pleased with the turnout,” added Pall.  “November 7 will be our final event this year, and it promises to be a lively and upbeat session!”
