September 23-29 is National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, and Victoria College’s Adult Education Center has something planned each day of the week.

All of the events are free, and the public is invited to attend.

Opening ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Adult Education Center, 802 E. Crestwood. Mayor Paul Polasek’s proclamation will be read and presented by Gary Moses. Students at the Center will pledge to support literacy, and there will be a gift basket door prize. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday is Adult Educator & Volunteer Appreciation Day. Treat bags will be presented to teachers, and a sign-up sheet for new tutors will be distributed.

Wednesday is Family Literacy in Practice Information/Registration Day beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Adult Education Center, and at 3:30 p.m. at Victory Christian Life Center, 1604 E Crestwood Dr.

“This family event can help parents and their children improve reading, writing and math skills,” said Tiffany Johnson, Adult Education Center director.

Thursday is Community Awareness Day, and residents are encouraged to wear “I support Literacy” stickers. The stickers will be handed out throughout the day at H-E-B, Sam’s Club, and Walmart.

Friday is Partners & Stakeholders in Adult Education & Family Literacy Day, with a presentation on adult education services at 2 p.m. and tours offered all day at the Center. Services such as practice testing, classes, tutoring, family literacy, English as a Second Language, and others will be highlighted in the presentation.
