Lyceum speaker to bring offbeat humor to Victoria College campus

Jennifer Worick

New York Times best-selling author Jennifer Worick will open Victoria College’s 2013-14 Lyceum Lecture Series, appearing at noon Thursday, Oct. 3 in the VC Student Center.

The Lyceum lecture is free and open to the public.

"I’ve written on everything under the sun for national magazines and websites like ‘The Huffington Post,’ ‘Allure,’ and ‘Salon,’ and I currently write a books column for Today.com and an entertainment tech blog for MSN’s Popware,” Worick said in her biography. “In addition to bookshelves, newsstands, and your favorite websites, you can also find me online at ‘Things I Want to Punch in the Face.’”

“As a committee, we felt that her offbeat humor and publications such as ‘Things I Want to Punch in the Face’ would appeal to our student population,” said Elaine Everett-Hensley, VC Student Activities director and member of the Lyceum Lecture Series Committee. “Other publications, such as her “Worst-Case Scenarios Survival Handbooks about Dating and Sex” and “College 101” would be interesting reads. I think our students would enjoy her outlook on life.”

The morning class schedule for Victoria College students will be adjusted for that day to allow them to attend the event.

Along with fellow author and publishing pro Kerry Colburn, Worick delivers publishing talks, workshops, and webinars to help burgeoning authors get published. She can also be seen in university auditoriums, where she offers up “side-splitting but informative slide-show presentations based on my popular books.”

Originally from southwestern Michigan, Worick lives in Seattle.
