Applications are now being accepted for the Victoria College Workforce & Continuing Education Department’s truck driving training. Classes begin Monday, Dec. 9.

Students are required to have a valid Texas driver’s license and complete a Department of Transportation physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
During the 7-week course, students will experience both classroom and behind-the-wheel driving activities. The coursework includes:

•    Public, street, and highway driving
•    Emphasis on safety, rules, regulations, and driving techniques
•    Opportunities to meet with recruiters from the trucking industry

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the Commercial Driver License written and driving examinations at the Texas Department of Public Safety. Graduates of the course will be eligible for entry-level employment in the trucking industry.

In the Golden Crescent region, truck drivers earn an average of $15.84 per hour or $31,000 per year. Commercial truck drivers transport supplies, equipment, and finished goods from one point to another so they can be distributed, bought, or sold.
