Temporary and interactive exhibits announced at Museum of the Coastal Bend

The Museum of the Coastal Bend, located on the Victoria College Main Campus, has some temporary and interactive exhibits in place for the next few months.

Theses exhibits are in place while the Museum prepares for the installation of a permanent exhibit, Where Texas History Began, which will open to the public in late February 2014.

The temporary exhibits are:
  •     Early Peoples of the Texas Coastal Bend  with atlatl throwing
  •     Step into La Belle  - shipwreck artifacts placed as discovered in a full-scale outline of the hull of the Belle
  •     Build a fort/build a cannon
  •     “Clay” pottery-building station featuring regional ceramic artifacts
  •     Public archeology laboratory on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Also, the Museum is now the first public museum in the world to accept bitcoin payment, in addition to cash, check and credit/debit card, Museum Director Sue Prudhomme said. Bitcoin, the first decentralized digital currency, can be used for payment of admission, donations and museum store purchases.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. -4.p.m. on the Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. The museum will resume regular viewing hours on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
