Victoria College to host Long-Term Care Activity Director Update

Victoria College is offering a one-day Long-Term Care Activity Director Update from 8 a.m.-4:50 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21 in Room 133 of VC’s Health Sciences Center.

The registration fee is $50 and includes instructional materials and lunch.

The activity director continuing education activity is designed to update knowledge and skills related to the effects of recreational activities as an intervention to alleviation of stress, reduction of anxiety and heightening the feeling of overall well-being.

Topics will include Resident/Client Assessment, Categories of Activities, program planning, activities adaptation, recreational activity ideas, and activity evaluation. Hands-on participation will also be featured to help participants gain knowledge of and skills regarding specific benefits of a wider variety of recreational activities.

Long-term care activity directors, activity director assistants, social workers and others interested in long-term care activities are invited to attend the update.

“Victoria College is dedicated to providing quality, accessible continuing education classes for the activity directors in our service region,” said Marilyn Powell, VC allied health coordinator & instructor and member of the Update Planning Committee.

The presenter is Crystal Eichhorn, AD/TXC, ADC, activity director at Yorktown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Eichhorn has more than 14 years of experience in healthcare. She received her activity director education at Victoria College and is Texas Certified.

Eight hours of continuing education will be earned upon the successful completion of this activity.
