Victoria College Title V advisor Vince Ortiz has accepted the newly-created position of assistant manager for the VC Gonzales Center.

Ortiz currently serves as VC’s Title V Lead Pre-College Advisor for the College Access Resource Success (CARS) Center at Gonzales High School and will be transitioning into his new position over the next several months. He has been employed by VC’s Title V program since Jan. 2010.

As the assistant center manager, he will be assisting Center Manager Jackie Mikesh with advising, financial aid questions and related activities as well as working with Workforce and Continuing Education.

“I’m excited; it’s an opportunity for me to continue serving the students and community members of Gonzales but at a different level,” Ortiz said. “With Title V, I was working directly with high school students. Now, I will work with the students and community members.”

“It’s a different aspect of VC that I will be involved in,” he continued. “I look forward to working alongside Jackie Mikesh. She has done a phenomenal job here at the VC Gonzales Center.”

Ortiz is no stranger to the Gonzales Center. He would often be found helping Mikesh with advising, testing and summer activities at the center.

“Vince Ortiz has been a familiar face in Gonzales since he began his work as GHS as a VC Title V pre-college advisor four years ago,” Mikesh said. “Students, faculty and staff are thrilled that Vince will be joining our local VC team on a regular basis. He brings to the VC Gonzales Center both experience at Victoria College and prior experience in higher education.”

Mikesh described Ortiz as a strong advocate for students who will utilize his talents to help VC students meet their higher education goals.
