Crossroads Community Band to perform ‘players’ choice’ in Feb. 25 concert

As part of its 2014 spring concert series, the Crossroads Community Band will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. This will be the first performance with the band’s new director, Ken Peach.

Featured in this Players’ Choice Concert will be favorite works selected by the band. This includes music by George Gershwin, John Williams, John Philip Sousa, Michael Daugherty, Pavel Tschesnokoff, and the Beatles.

Peach serves as director of fine arts for VISD and has taught music education in Texas public schools and colleges from 1992-2000. He has been honored twice in the “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” publication. Peach earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his Master of Education in Secondary Education degree from the University of North Texas in Denton.

Founded five years ago, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life, including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, computer specialists, business people, and students.

The band rehearses Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. in the Victoria College Band Hall. The music group is affiliated with Victoria College and includes 14 students who are enrolled in the band for college credit.

Future CCB concerts are scheduled for April 8 at the Welder Center, May 13 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center, and May 15 at the Ethel Lee Tracy Park Pavilion.
