VC Spring Break Awareness Day demonstrates dangers of impaired driving

Miros Gonzales, left, Victoria College admissions analyst, competes against VC student Austin Wylie in a pedal course during VC’s Spring Break Awareness Day. Participants wore vision-impairing goggles designed to simulate the effects of drunk driving while maneuvering around plastic cones representing pedestrians. The Texas Department of Transportation had a rollover simulator to demonstrate what happens to vehicle occupants not wearing seatbelts. Also during the event, TxDOT personnel invited students, faculty and staff to sign a pledge promising not to drink and drive. More than 100 people signed the pledge. Other agencies participating in the event included the Victoria Police Department, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the American Red Cross, and the Texas Game Warden’s Office. Victoria College’s Spring Break is March 10-14.
