VCs Academy of Lifelong Learning to hold open house Aug. 21

Victoria College’s Academy of Lifelong Learning will host its fall open house 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 in the Victoria College Student Center, Rooms A-D. Refreshments will be served in the come-and-go event.

The academy is an educational membership organization for active, mature adults ages 50 and above, offering classes and social activities for continued intellectual and personal growth.

Visitors will be able to meet members and instructors and can register for more than 30 classes during the open house. There is a one-time membership fee of $50, which covers all classes and activities for an entire year.

This fall, topics offered include:

  •     History
  •     Psychology
  •     Introduction to new hobbies
  •     Cinema Club
  •     Arts, crafts and games
  •     Travel
  •     Tours to local attractions

“The Academy of Lifelong Learning’s philosophy can be summed up in a quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes: ‘A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions,’” said Destiny Olson, Lifelong Learning Program Specialist.
