Nine high school seniors first to graduate, receive college degree

Nine seniors from the Liberty Academy’s Early College Center (ECC) were recently honored by Victoria College and Victoria ISD with a banquet in the VC Student Center. Liberty Academy’s ECC was created in partnership with Victoria College five years ago through a grant received by VISD. This year, 25 seniors will be the first class to graduate from the ECC and of those, nine will receive their Associate of Arts degree from Victoria College. In addition to their high school graduation ceremony, they will also take part in VC’s Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 9. Senior Cassidy Mangum said she challenged herself by applying for the program. “I knew that if I wanted to do anything with my life, I needed to be educated,” Mangum said. “I wanted to prove that I could better myself.” The graduating seniors receiving their associate degrees are, seated, from left: Alisa Martinez, Cassidy Mangum, Carmen North, and Valerie Olivares.
