Four retiring VC faculty named professor emeriti

Four retiring Victoria College faculty members were named professor emeriti during VC’s 2015 Spring Commencement Ceremony.

Those who qualify for the professor emeritus honor have served as a full-time faculty member at VC for a minimum of 15 years and are retired, or will be retiring, by the end of August. The four were also recognized for their important educational contributions to Victoria College.

The 2015 honorees and their years of service at VC are:

  • Mary Stahoviak, English associate professor, 34 years
  • Kelly McKay, physical education professor, 25 years
  • Dr. Karen Hoblit, psychology instructor, 21 years
  • Bill Byers, physical education department chair and instructor, 18 years

Professor emeriti enjoy several college privileges that include access to college facilities and resources along with an open and on-going invitation to participate in commencement ceremonies and any other special events. Additionally, professor emeriti have the option to teach courses part-time at VC as adjunct instructors.

VC began naming professor emeriti in May 2011. Previous honorees are Larry Dunn, Wilbur Collins and Ruth Williams in 2014; Dr. Michael Hummel, Harry Wagner and David White in 2013; Raphael Venegas in 2012; and Charles Spurlin, Marty Domke Horecka and Mark Henry in 2011.
