Victoria College’s Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts will host a series of six movies for kids and families in August.

The Downtown Kids Movie Series is scheduled for Wednesdays, Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 22 at 3:30 p.m.; and Saturdays, Aug. 8 and 15 at 6 p.m.

The movies will feature favorite princesses, transforming pumpkins, brave dragons, singing snowmen, talking sea sponges, loveable minions and a “Special” toy block.

The first five movies are free and open to the public. The sixth movie, on Aug. 22, will be a sing-a-long screening with tickets available at $5 per person. Seating is limited and admittance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

"This series is a wonderful way for children to cool off from the August heat and enjoy a movie in the waning days of summer before school starts,” said Sue Prudhomme, Victoria College cultural affairs director.

The movie series is presented in partnership with KMOL-TV 17 NBC & KVCT 19 Fox. Community members are invited to watch these local channels for clues to the names of the movies that will be shown and guess correctly for a chance to win prizes. Registration boxes are located at Peter Piper Pizza, VCS AT&T authorized retail store and BedButlers. Contest rules will be at each location and posted online at CrossroadsToday.com.

The series is sponsored by VCS Companies, DeTar Healthcare System, Bedbutlers, Victoria Heart and Vascular Center, Nueces Electric Coop Retail, Hardy McKenzie Law and Peter Piper Pizza.

Tickets for the sing-a-long movie on Aug. 22 may be purchased at the Leo J. Welder Center Box Office, by calling (361) 570-TKTS, or online at WelderCenter.org.
