Museum hosts ‘It’s About Time’ event

Crossroads-area residents are invited to discover how ‘time flies’ at the Museum of the Coastal Bend’s “It’s About Time” event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 15. The museum will have a selection of hands-on activities showing how people measure time and study history.

During the day, visitors will be able to make their own sundials, count the rings on tree-slice necklaces and learn how to use a time-telling tool like the one that French explorers brought to Texas in 1685.

“We’re all traveling through time every day, usually without really paying attention to where it goes,” says Isabel Van Dyke, MCB’s curator of education. “But measuring time is an important and interesting field—there’s an amazing variety of ways that researchers can figure out how old things are, from tree rings to ice cores to amounts of carbon left behind.”

To learn more about “It’s About Time” or other programs at the museum, contact Van Dyke at (361) 582-2559 or email Isabel.VanDyke@VictoriaCollege.edu.

The Museum of the Coastal Bend is located on the corner of Red River and Ben Jordan streets on Victoria College’s Main Campus in Victoria.

Regular museum hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and admission is pay-what-you-want. For more information, including a calendar of events, visit MuseumOfTheCoastalBend.org.
