Adult Education orientation held for DeWitt, Lavaca County residents

DeWitt and Lavaca County residents do not have to go far to learn about adult education opportunities offered by Victoria College. VC’s Adult Basic Education program will have an orientation session in Hallettsville at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Friench Simpson Memorial Library, 705 E. Fourth St.

“We help students prepare to take the GED and reach a college-ready level,” said Sharon Vaclavik, Victoria College Gonzales Center Adult Education coordinator. “We also offer English as a Second Language classes to individuals with limited understanding of the English language.”

Individuals interested in attending the orientation session should complete an application prior to the session. In Hallettsville, applications can be completed at the Friench Simpson Memorial Library 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

In Shiner, applications can be completed at the Shiner Public Library, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8-11 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

In Yoakum, applications can be completed at the Carl & Mary Welhausen Public Library 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The orientation session will consist of an overview of the program, including hours needed to complete progress testing, pathways and college transition course information, steps to earning a GED, and learning the English language.
