A large chorus with more than 200 singers from Calhoun High School, Cuero High School, Edna High School, Victoria East High School, Victoria West High School, Victoria College and the Victoria Civic Chorus will perform compositions from the 2016 Texas High School All-State Choir Program. The concert will give students an opportunity to perform works they cannot perform within their own school and to help prepare them for the upcoming State Choir tryouts.

Under the direction of Dr. Marylynn Fletcher, music professor at Victoria College, the large chorus will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center. The VC Choir and Victoria Civic Chorus will sing to help complete the ensemble. The concert is free and open to the public.

The combined choirs will sing two women’s pieces, a men’s piece and two selections for mixed chorus. The compositions chosen for the concert are those most participating singers learned for their first round of auditions earlier this month.

“Students in the high schools compete individually for positions in the choir,” said Fletcher. “It is a very selective choir.”

Those students winning a position in the All-State Choir will perform in February at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio.

Sponsors for the concert are Canteen, Chick-fil-A, Domino’s Pizza, Sonic and Wienerschnitzel.
