Crossroads Community Band to perform free outdoor concert at VC

Patriotic tunes and familiar themes will be featured in the Crossroads Community Band’s first concert of the season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 in front of Victoria College’s Technology Center, 2200 E. Red River St.

The concert is free and open to the public. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets.

“Come join us as we kick off a very exciting concert season,” said Carlos Gonzalez, CCB president. “We have exciting performances for this fall and hope the community will continue to support us by attending our concerts.”

Music to be performed will include:

  • “Americans We,” by Henry Fillmore
  • “La Madre de los Gatos,” by Brian Beck
  • “Among the Clouds,” by Brian Balmages
  • “La Virgen de la Macarena,” arranged by the Canadian Brass, adapted by Calvin Custer
  • “It’s Broadway!” arranged by John Edmondson
  • “An American Spectacular,” arranged by Chris Sharp
  • “Abide with Me,” by William H. Monk, arranged by Jay Dawson
  • “Star Wars Medley,” by John Williams            

The 45-member Crossroads Community Band, conducted by Ken Peach, rehearses Tuesday nights in the Fine Arts Building band hall on VC’s Main Campus. The band is affiliated with Victoria College, and students may enroll in the band for VC music ensemble credit.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life, including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.
