Commercial Truck Driving course at VC begins Oct. 19

Victoria College’s next Commercial Truck Driving course begins Monday, Oct. 19.

During the seven-week course, students will experience both classroom and behind-the-wheel driving activities. The coursework includes:  

•    Public, street and highway driving
•    Emphasis on safety, rules, regulations and techniques
•    Opportunities to meet with recruiters from the trucking industry

As part of the course, students will take the Commercial Driver License written and driving examinations at the Department of Public Safety. Graduates of the course will be eligible for entry-level employment in the trucking industry.

Students are required to have a valid Texas driver’s license and complete a Department of physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.

“Victoria College’s Commercial Truck Driving course is a popular class due to the excellent employment opportunities in this industry,” said Mary Pullin, VC’s Workforce & Continuing Education program specialist. “Students will experience hands-on training, which includes using VC’s state-of-the-art truck simulator and driving an 18-wheeler and a tanker truck”

In the Golden Crescent region, truck drivers earn an average of $16 per hour or $33,000 per year and can earn as much as $51,000 annually, according to emsi Career Coach 2015.
