Victoria College will host Dr. Mario Livio as the second speaker in the 2015-16 Lyceum Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Victoria.

Livio is an internationally renowned astrophysicist who has worked for 24 years with the Hubble Space Telescope. His recent book, “Brilliant Blunders: From Darwin to Einstein,” was on the Bestsellers List of the New York Times and was selected by the Washington Post as one of the 2013 Best Books of the Year.

At the lecture Livio will discuss aspects from his book, which accounts the actual – oftentimes messy and unpredictable – process of scientific discovery. He demonstrates that even the greatest luminaries in science and technology have stumbled upon their findings through error.

As a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Livio has published more than 400 scientific papers on topics ranging from Dark Energy and cosmology to black holes and extrasolar planets. He is also the author of “The Golden Ratio” and “Is God a Mathematician?”
