Crossroads Community Band to honor veterans with concert

The Crossroads Community Band will perform its Veterans Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

“On the program, we have musical selections to honor the men and women of our Armed Forces this Veterans Day,” said Ken Peach, CCB director.

The band will perform:

  • “An American Fanfare,” by Rick Kirby
  • “Coat of Arms,” by George Kenny
  • “An American Spectacular,” arranged by Chris Sharp
  • “Armed Forces Salute,” arranged by Bob Lowden
  • “The Vanished Army March,” by Kenneth J. Alford
  • “National Emblem,” by E. E. Bagley
  • “The Light Eternal,” by James Swearingen
  • “Within These Hallowed Halls,” arranged by James Swearingen
  • “As All the Heavens Were a Bell,” by Jay Bocook

The 65-member Crossroads Community Band, conducted by Ken Peach, rehearses Tuesday evenings in the Fine Arts Building band hall on VC’s Main Campus. The band is affiliated with Victoria College, and students may enroll in the band for VC music ensemble credit. This semester, there are 10 VC students receiving credit for their participation in the band.

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band consists of instrumentalists from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, doctors, librarians, engineers, school band directors, computer specialists, business people, students and musicians. Instruments played include tubas, trombones, trumpets, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, euphoniums, French horns, flutes, saxophones and percussion.

The Victoria Fine Arts Center is located at 1002 Sam Houston Drive.
