As part of Victoria College’s Faculty Recital Series, Nick Stange will perform selections for marimba and vibraphone from a variety of composers including Michael Burritt, Thad Anderson, Eric Sammut and Paul Bissel. The recital will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Victoria West High School Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

“I’m excited about listening to this recital,” said Marylynn Fletcher, VC music professor. “Not only will there be marimba solos but combinations that include marimba with vibraphone and tape as well. It will be more avant-garde than typical recitals in Victoria.”

Stange is currently the director of percussion for Victoria West High School and an adjunct private percussion instructor at Victoria College. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010 and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Master of Arts degree in 2014.

The marimba player has performed in music venues across the United States and Western Europe. He performed with the percussion ensemble at the 2006 PASIC Convention and toured Western Europe with the Wind Ensemble performing John Corigliano’s “Symphony No. 3.”

Stange is a former member of the Cage Percussion Players that performed many of John Cage’s percussion works. He has also marched with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and toured the southwest United States performing new works for solo percussion and giving master classes at several universities.
