Emerging Technology Complex becomes hub for business and training events
Emerging Technology Complex
The Conference and Education Center at Victoria College's Emerging Technology Complex has ample meeting space for up to 500 people.

Organizations from the Golden Crescent region – and beyond – are making Victoria College their destination for expos, conferences and meetings. Since VC’s Emerging Technology Complex opened its doors in June 2015, more than 120 events have been hosted at this unique facility, and new events are already booked as far out as 2017.

“There is really nothing like it in the state of Texas,” said Tempi McLeod, manager of the Emerging Technology Complex.

The versatile facility combines meeting and classroom space that can be used for everything from industrial training, presentations and classroom education to large exhibits, gala receptions and small meetings.

The unique complex consists of two buildings. A three-story, 72,000 sq. ft. Conference and Education Center provides flexible space for events large and small. With 18,000 sq. ft. of meeting space for up to 500 people, multiple reception areas and catering facilities, and professional staff, the Conference and Education Center can accommodate many kinds of events.

Mike Cavazos, training manager at INVISTA, recently organized a computer-training seminar at the complex and was pleased with the experience.

“Everyone was very friendly and helpful,” said Cavazos. “I was impressed with the ownership from the welcome at the front door, to the staff assisting my team, and the custodians who were very friendly and helpful. They always had a smile.”

Right next to the Conference and Education Center, the 42,000 sq. ft. Industrial Training Center is available for hands-on technical and industrial training. Equipped with six classrooms and high-bay labs featuring large entry doors for oversized equipment, the training center offers hard-to-find facilities for corporate and industrial education.

“The Emerging Technology Complex is unique because it marries the best of an industrial training facility with a full-service conference center,” explained McLeod.  “The complex was designed to meet community needs for a full-service conference center and also meet the industrial training needs of the region. The two buildings can work together or independently.”

In February, the Texas Water Utilities Association put the full complex to use for a one-day event that combined classroom and hands-on training.

While 33 vendors displayed a variety of water utility products and services in the conference center, about 120 members of the association took part in training classes in the high-bay labs where oversized equipment was brought in on flatbed trailers.

In April, the Mid Coast Hurricane and Disaster Conference will also make use of the entire complex.

“Because we’re one of only 11 facilities in Texas certified by the International Association of Conference Centres, we can guarantee a high level of service for any size professional meeting,” said McLeod. “We’ve scheduled everything from a cheerleading banquet to Rotary Club events, from strategic planning meetings to forklift training.”

Conveniently located within a two-hour drive from Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, the Emerging Technology Complex is ideally situated for regional training and education events. The Victoria Regional Airport also provides air service to Austin and Houston.
