VC truck driving course begins May 2

Registration is open for Victoria College’s next Commercial Truck Driving course which begins Monday, May 2.

During the seven-week course, students will experience classroom and behind-the-wheel driving activities. Students will drive an 18-wheeler and a tanker truck on public streets and highways as well as practice driving scenarios in a state-of-the-art training simulator. Driving safety, rules, regulations and techniques will be covered.

As part of the course, students will take the Commercial Driver License written and driving examinations at the Department of Public Safety. Graduates of the course will be eligible for entry-level employment in the trucking industry, and there will be opportunities to meet with recruiters from the trucking industry.

Students are required to have a valid Texas driver’s license and complete a Texas Department of Public Safety physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.

“One of the benefits to our graduates is that they are job-ready in seven weeks,” said Mary Pullin, Workforce & Continuing Education program specialist. “With the combined driving and simulation exercises, they are prepared to enter the workforce with confidence.”

The class will meet at Victoria College’s Industrial Training Center at the Emerging Technology Complex, 7403 Lone Tree Road.
