Crossroads Community Band hosts free concert

The Crossroads Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

Ken Peach, conductor and director of VISD fine arts, will be joined by two guest conductors. The first is Debbie Colley, band director at Patti Welder Middle School, the associate conductor of the Crossroads Community Band, and a member of the band’s flute section. The second is Carlos Gonzalez, assistant band director at Victoria East High School, president of the Crossroads Community Band, and member of the band’s French horn section.

Music to be performed will include:

  • “El Capitan March” by John Philip Sousa
  • “Mars (from ‘The Planets’)” by Gustav Holst
  • “Be Thou My Vision” arranged by Travis Cross
  • “The Mansions of the Lord” arranged by Benjamin Harlan & Ted Ricketts
  • “The Walking Frog March” by Karl King
  • “Abracadabra” by Frank Ticheli
  • “Symphonic Dance No 3 ‘Fiesta’” by Clifton Williams            

Founded in 2009, the Crossroads Community Band is affiliated with Victoria College, and students may enroll in the band for VC concert band credit. Currently, 11 students from VC are active members in the band.
