VC sees increase in graduates, holds 2 commencement ceremonies

With nearly 300 Victoria College graduates slated to walk the stage at the end of the Spring 2016 semester, VC will hold two graduation ceremonies this year. Last year, 142 students participated in one ceremony.

“Having two ceremonies will eliminate any need for tickets and will not limit the number of individuals that graduates can invite to the ceremony,” said Missy Klimitchek, director of enrollment services.

Associate degrees or certificates will be awarded to 539 students this academic year, up from 385 students last year.

“The College has been more actively seeking students who are eligible to graduate and encouraging them to participate in commencement ceremonies,” said Klimitchek. “We are excited to see that more families will have the opportunity to celebrate their students’ accomplishments this year.”

The ceremony for graduates whose last name begins with A-K – as well as graduating Liberty Academy High School seniors – will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center. The ceremony for graduates whose last name begins with L-Z will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Brian Hutcheson, math assistant professor and recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Teaching Award, will be the commencement speaker at both ceremonies.
