Victoria College Foundation awards 2016 Faculty and Staff grants
EMS Program
The Victoria College Foundation recently presented a grant of $4,350 to the VC EMS Department. Pictured from left are Dr. Josie Rivera (VC Foundation board member), Susie Jechow (VC EMS coordinator), and Amy Mundy (VC Foundation executive director).

The purchase of a Stream Table was one of the 12 grants recently awarded to Victoria College faculty and staff by the Victoria College Foundation.

Almost $20,000 in funding, the selected grant proposals focused on students and active learning experiences.

The Stream Table will deliver an eyewitness view of geologic processes to students that normally occur very slowly in nature, but in a fraction of time in the classroom. It will be used in various courses including meteorology, oceanography, environmental science and physical and historical geology classes.

“Engaging students in active learning experiences enhances not only what they retain, but brings the subject matter to life,” said Elgin Janssen, a VC Foundation board member who served on the selection committee.

The committee consisted of Janssen and fellow VC Foundation board member Ben Galvan along with four Victoria College faculty and staff members.

“The VC Foundation is pleased to be able to award grants for these important projects and equipment,” said Amy Mundy, VC Foundation executive director. “The ultimate beneficiary of every grant are Victoria College students. We are thrilled to partner with faculty and staff to continue to bring innovative learning approaches to enhance the student experience.”

More than $325,000 in funding has been awarded by the VC Foundation to VC faculty and staff since 1998.
