Captain Vic greeted 132 incoming freshmen to Victoria College’s first Pirate Orientation for 2016 fall semester students on June 23.

Victoria College welcomed 132 freshmen to campus on June 23 for its first Pirate Orientation session for incoming 2016 fall semester students.

The 7½-hour event helped students prepare for making the transition into college life and encouraged them to strive for success at VC. Students were able to create a degree plan, plan their class schedules and learn rules and responsibilities of being a VC student.

“During Pirate Orientation, we emphasize that learning is a partnership,” said Darin Kazmir, director of Marketing and Communications. “We showcase Victoria College’s commitment to helping students succeed, but we also focus on empowering students to become active participants in their own learning.”

All new freshmen are required to attend one Pirate Orientation session. Following the sessions, students can tour the campus, purchase books, make payments and acquire their student IDs.

The next scheduled Pirate Orientation for Thursday, July 7 is full. The remaining open Pirate Orientations are scheduled for Thursday, July 14; Monday, July 25; and Thursday, Aug. 4. Each session is from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students are asked to arrive at the VC Student Center no later than 7:30 a.m. to complete registration.

Students can sign up for Pirate Orientation at www.VictoriaCollege.edu/PirateOrientation.
