The Alcoa Foundation recently presented a $50,000 grant to Victoria College.

The Alcoa Foundation presented a $50,000 grant to Victoria College to fund scholarships for students pursuing millwright, pipefitting, plumbing, welding, truck driving, electrical and HVAC professions and to provide curriculum development, equipment and supplies for these industrial trades classes.

Many of the students who seek to take advantage of the classes at Victoria College in industrial trades do not have the funds to pay full tuition. Scholarship funding can dramatically improve the chances of potential students enrolling and completing their certification or training.

“We truly value our longstanding partnership with Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation. Alcoa Foundation Industrial Trades Scholarships will help students to receive certification or training in high-demand trades, while limiting financial barriers that they might have,” said Dr. David Hinds, VC President.

“Victoria College is a critical provider of trade and postsecondary education in our community, and this grant will extend those programs and provide scholarships to students who could not otherwise afford them,” said Kevin Riggs, Alcoa Point Operations Plant Manager. “On behalf of the Alcoa Foundation, we’re excited for the opportunity to support the area in this way.”

The Alcoa Foundation is one of the largest corporate foundations in the U.S., with assets of approximately $470 million. Founded 62 years ago, Alcoa Foundation has invested more than $590 million. In 2013, Alcoa Foundation contributed more than $22 million to nonprofit organizations throughout the world, building innovative partnerships to improve the environment and educate tomorrow's leaders for careers in manufacturing and engineering.
