Pirates return four volleyball players for 2016-17 season

Victoria College’s Pirates volleyball team has completed its roster for the 2016-17 season.

Coach Joshua Moore will return four players from last season and welcome seven new members to the team when practices begin on Aug. 10.

“We return a good nucleus of players,” Moore said. “We are also excited to see the new players coming in and making immediate impacts.”

Returning sophomores are rightside hitter Jada Whitby (Victoria East), defensive specialist/outside hitter Bethany Salziger (Goliad), defensive specialist Emily DeLuna (Corpus Christi Ray), and middle blocker Casey Jackson (Victoria East).

Incoming freshmen are middle blocker Katy Salziger (Goliad), defensive specialist Skylar Chreene (Industrial), middle blocker Jami Shimek (Hallettsville Sacred Heart), setter/outside hitter Erin Miksch (Flatonia), outside hitter Hannah Wright (Victoria East), defensive specialist/rightside hitter Katt Benitez (Corpus Christi Ray), and middle blocker Kadi Elledge (Edna).

The Pirates will start the season on Aug. 26 at the Texadelphia Palomino Challenge in Laredo against Coastal Bend College. VC will face Universidad de Regiomontana and Laredo Community College on Aug. 27 in the round-robin tournament.
