John Villafranca has submitted his resignation as the District 5 member of Victoria College’s Board of Trustees.

Villafranca, who had been a board member since 2013, informed the board of his resignation after the July 18 regular meeting, citing personal reasons for his decision. Villafranca officially notified Ron Walker, board president, with an email on July 20.

“It truly has been a privilege and an honor to work with such a wonderful group of people who are so focused on the educational needs of our community," Villafranca said.

The board will accept Villafranca's resignation at a special board meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 1. The District 5 term expires in 2020.

“The Board of Victoria College certainly hates to lose John Villafranca as one of its members,” Walker said. “John has always been a strong and enthusiastic supporter of affordable higher education in Victoria and our area whether it involved academic courses or workforce training. He has generously said the he will continue to support Victoria College in any way that he can.”

Villafranca serves as director of Outpatient Business Development for DeTar Healthcare System.
