Victoria College students residing in Gonzales and Lavaca counties are eligible for workforce and continuing education scholarships thanks to a grant from the Dickson-Allen Foundation.

An information session on the scholarships available will be held Thursday, Aug. 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the VC Gonzales Center located at 424 E. Sarah DeWitt Street in Gonzales.

“Victoria College’s Gonzales Center is thrilled to award scholarships to area students pursuing workforce training due to the generosity of the Dickson-Allen Foundation,” said VC Gonzales Center Manager Jackie Mikesh. “This is a great option for students who may not be ready to take college-level courses but want to learn skills to get a job that pays well.”

Information will also be available on short-term training offered at the Gonzales Center and leading to high-demand occupations in fields such as electrical; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; nurse aide; medication aide; phlebotomy; truck driving; and welding.

Some of the courses can be completed in as little as six weeks, and all are designed to prepare individuals for entry-level employment in high-demand occupations.
