Cano selected to join VC Board of Trustees
Dr. Daniel A. Cano

Victoria College’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Daniel A. Cano to the District 5 position on the board during Thursday’s special meeting. Cano will replace John Villafranca, who resigned from the board in July.

Cano, a Victoria native and 2001 graduate of St. Joseph High School, serves on the University of Houston-Victoria President’s Regional Advisory Board and the Victoria County Board of Health.

Cano graduated Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University-College Station in 2005 and attained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in 2009. He remained in Houston to complete his internal medicine residency before moving back to Victoria in 2012.

“Dr. Cano will be a great addition to the board,” VC Vice President of College Advancement and External Affairs Jennifer Yancey said. “His healthcare knowledge and insight will be extremely beneficial for Victoria College since allied health programs make up a large part of our instructional offerings.”

Yancey said the board received several inquiries regarding the board vacancy.

“The board thoughtfully considered all of those who inquired. We really appreciate the interest that people showed in serving Victoria College and supporting higher education in our community,” Yancey said. “We appreciate Mr. Villafranca’s service on the board and wish him the best.  We are confident Dr. Cano will be a great fit because of his background and look forward to working with him to further educational attainment in our region.”

Cano works as a Hospitalist Physician and is the Chief Medical Officer at Citizens Medical Center.  He and his wife, Veronica, have two children ages 3 and 1.
