Book club to discuss ‘The Freedom Writers Diary’

The Victoria Public Library and Brown Bag Book Club will host a “readout” featuring “The Freedom Writers Diary” from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

The Victoria Public Library will provide an introduction to the book while members of the Brown Bag Book Club and others will read selected excerpts, and participate in an open discussion on how they were impacted by the book.

Members of the Brown Bag Book Club will introduce “The Freedom Writers Diary” and read selected excerpts before sharing how the book impacted them. The event is free and open to the public.

Educator Erin Gruwell, whose teaching philosophy inspired the book and the 2007 motion picture “Freedom Writers,” will kick off Victoria College’s Lyceum Lecture Series at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.
