VC, Golden Crescent Regional Advisory Council team up to host emergency care conference

Dr. John McNeill makes his presentation on “Shockingly Sick: A Review of Pathophysiology and Latest Treatment Modalities of Shock” at the Regional Emergency Care Conference on Aug. 27.

The Golden Crescent Regional Advisory Council (GCRAC) and Victoria College joined forces to offer a Regional Emergency Care Conference on Aug. 27 at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex.

Seventy-two participants consisting of nurses, EMS personnel and ancillary health providers participated in the all-day event. Dr. Kyle Kincaid spoke on “Synthetic Marijuana: Not Your Father’s Mary Jane,” Dr. Ayo Adu presented “It’s a Knockout! Care of Patients with Suspected Concussions,” EMT-Paramedic Scotty Bolleter talked about “An Unsettling Settlement: The Harsh Lethality of Good Intentions,” and Dr. John McNeill spoke on “Shockingly Sick: A Review of Pathophysiology and Latest Treatment Modalities of Shock.”

Four exhibitors - San Antonio AirLife, PHI Air Medical, Methodist AirCare/Air-Evac, and Public Servant Solutions - participated in the conference.

Citizens Medical Center’s Continuing Education Office offered 6.17 contact hours for nurses, EMS and healthcare professionals.

Members of the planning committee for the event were Carolyn Knox, RN, Citizens Trauma Program Manager and GCRAC Chair; Susan Morrison, Citizens CE Coordinator; Melinda Griffin, RN, DeTar Trauma Manager; Angie Burgin, RN, DeTar North Emergency Department Manager; and Susie Jechow, LP, EMS Coordinator at Victoria College.
