Victoria College Choir Director Dr. Marylynn Fletcher conducts Monday night’s performance of “Hymn to the Dawn” during Choral Celebration II at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Approximately 240 singers from Victoria College and four high schools participated in Monday night’s Choral Celebration II at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

Eugenie Fuhrman, VC adjunct instructor of voice, provided a solo performance of Franz J. Hadyn’s “Kyrie from Lord Nelson Mass” with a chorus of students from the VC Choir and Victoria East, Victoria West and Cuero high school choirs.

Female choir members from VC and the East, West, Cuero and Calhoun high school choirs performed Gustav T. Holst’s “Hymn to the Dawn” and Leo Delibes’ “Dome Epais.” All male members from the choirs performed Felix Mendelssohn’s “Beati Mortui” and Lee Dengler’s “Things That Never Die.”

The event concluded with a mixed chorus performance of Johannes Brahms’ “Wechsellied Zum Tanz” and Kim Andre Arnesen’s “Flight Song.”

“The performance went very well,” said VC Choir Director Dr. Marylynn Fletcher. “It is a collaborative event between the college and the area high schools that participate in the Texas All-State Choir Auditions. Each year we learn how to tweak it so it runs more smoothly, and we are looking forward to next year.”

Glenn Hunter accompanied the choirs on piano.

VC students interested in performing with the choir can register for the Spring 2017 semester beginning in November at VictoriaCollege.edu.
