Crossroad Strings Fall Concert scheduled for Oct. 24
Don Orser

The Crossroads Strings Fall Concert, presented by Victoria College and the Victoria Symphony Society, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

Directed by Don Orser, the Crossroads Strings will perform pieces by Mozart and Beethoven and end the event with Halloween-themed selections.

Admission is free.

“We’re entering our second year of our memorandum of understanding between Victoria College and the Victoria Symphony working together to create a performing opportunity for orchestral music,” said VC Professor of Music & Fine Arts Department Chair Jonathan Anderson. “The first year was very successful, and we’re extremely excited about our second year.”

VC student and cellist Hayley Rambo of Port Lavaca will be performing for the first time with the Crossroads Strings.

“I transferred to Victoria College from Texas State University for this semester, and I have been doing orchestra for a really long time,” Rambo said. “I wanted to be a part of something and this is what was available. It’s turned out to be really fun.”

Anderson said Crossroads Strings is a mix of string musicians of all ages.

“This group is comprised of college students who are getting college credit toward their music majors as well as community members who may have played string instruments and would like to play again and maybe even some high school students looking for some additional performing opportunities outside their groups,” Anderson said.

The Leo J. Welder Center is located at 214 N. Main Street in Victoria.
